what do we leave behind when we cross each frontier? each moment seems split in two; melancholy for what was left behind and the excitement of entering a new land. (the motorcycle diaries)
i left home. goodbyes are hard. missing out is hard. missing out on daily life, on small changes, small events, all add up to big changes. goodbyes are hard but necessary. i proceeded, with my best friend, to drive across the whole country, left coast to right, 3079 miles, approximately, beginning to end. Laughter, rain, open road... hands down the best event of 2011.
arrived at destination, bonded with old friends for the long weekend, had a lovely time getting all moved in, catching up, laughing uncontrollably. and now, after 4 years of hoping, 2 years of wanting, and 6 months of preparing, i am crossing a new frontier. starting nursing school. a hectic year (a bit more) awaits as i [aim to] tackle difficult coursework and brainwork at an accelerated pace. a year (a bit more) of striving to keep in some semblance of BALANCE my self and relationships, values and priorites, humility and knowledge, health and sanity. aiming to not get caught up in the attitudes and goals of those around me, but to focus on justice and praise, love and truth.
how do we maintain reflection, focus, purpose in the midst of swirling and seemingly endless tasks? how does one carve out time when there isn't time? i hope to hold to the feelings of split-ness, of melancholy and excitement, of looking back and looking forward, of living and loving where we are and where we aren't.
striving to know, and being still and knowing.
